Yes, the birthday party was today. The girls had a great time with their friends and family. I think they could spend their time like that every day! I'm glad things went well and only one person took a wrong turn. :)
Well, we have Morgan (our niece). She'll be with us until Monday. The girls are so happy. They had played one thing or another all afternoon. So, between the party, drawing, hide-and-go-seek and board games they are going to sleep tonight. John is just hoping Morgan is not completely bored so she will never want to return. We do lead very boring lives...as this blog reflects. :)
I am hoping this Tuesday we will finally get back to our school work. I have told the girls since we missed the last couple of weeks we'll probably have to do school work on John's days off to get caught up on our days. But I have to be honest, I haven't checked a calender yet. I'm hoping I'm wrong.
I have to say the second best thing that happened today, besides seeing my girls enjoy their party, was talking to my friend Caryn. Caryn and I have known each other since we were seven. You know the kind of friend you don't actually speak to for a year then it is just like you saw each other yesterday. I love that woman! We always find a way to laugh no matter what the subject is.

Still moving!
So, much for starting school last week and as this week gets started I see school not happening again. I'm a little worried about it, but we'll figure it out.
The girls' rooms are finally done! Closets and everything! John spent the weekend putting up shelves and hanging pictures. I went through clothes and reorganized with the aid of the girls. I hope they are happy...for a while. :)
The upstairs room, now the classroom and John's space, was not touched all last week except to bring more stuff up to put on the floor. I finally started going through things last night. Now, all the boxes are empty, but the piles on the floor need attention. I'm hoping to get a lot of that done today.
The girls are very excited about their party this weekend. We are too but wish we had been able to finish all the yard work we had wanted to. The weather has been totally uncooperative since June. I have to admit I'm tired of all of it. We have been working on the yard since March when we first started preparing for the fence to go in and we are both tired. It will get finished, but for this week it is on hold to prep for the party.
Chloe had a great 7th birthday last Thursday. (I'll post a few pics soon.) We went to Lexington to eat at Gilligan's. So wonderful!! Picked up her doggie cake (two cupcakes loaded with icing). That night we watched "The Spy Next Door". She was giddy all day!!

What a week! And we are still going.
I haven't posted for the last week for a reason. Last Monday night I asked John for a little advice on organizing our classroom. Honestly, I was at a total loss as to what to do with things. So, what happened? Well, the classroom is now back upstairs along with John's office. The girls are back in their rooms (kind of) and the house is still turned upside down.
John being John could not let Chloe move into a brown room, though she tried to be positive about it. So the painting began, again. Chloe's room is now pink with dark pink and green polka dots. Jesse's room was already lavender so we added orange, pink and yellow polka dots. Chloe's room is still unfinished until I get all of John's items out of her closet and upstairs.
I didn't say anything about the changes because my parents were coming for a visit this past weekend and I wanted to surprise my Mom. I have to admit we are far from done. While most things are upstairs or in the room where they should be, they are on the floor in most cases instead of put away somewhere. This week we'll be finishing that along with starting school.

I have decided to just do the four main subjects until Labor Day then we'll add in all the rest of the subjects. They will still get in a lot of summer that way and we won't be behind at the end of the year like the last two years.
The girls are also excited about an upcoming visit from their cousin, Morgan. She is going to stay with us for a few days (not sure how long yet) this summer. It will be the first time she has stayed overnight with us and we are all excited about it.

Our summer so far
The girls have had an enjoyable summer so far. There have been trips to the zoo, pools and running in sprinklers. We did take the trip to the beach the week before getting out of school, which was fun. In the last week-and-a-half, the girls have each read over thirty books. So the competition goes on to see who can read the most this summer (no, this was not MY idea...all theirs).
John and I have worked on the garden the last few days. I can really feel it this afternoon. I think a morning in Linda's pool did not help. By the time we got home I could really feel it. The garden is almost completely done now. We just have to lay out some block where the rain pours off the garage roof and it will be complete. Well, except for the all the harvesting which is enjoyable.
The yard has a ways to go. We still need so much mulch I dare not do the math on how many bags, but we are getting there. We would like to have the majority of it done by the girls' birthday party at the end of the month but we'll have to see how the weather is. I, personally, do not work in the yard when the heat index is 110 degrees. It is just not my thing! lol
We are trying to get our niece, Morgan, up for a visit this summer. I hope it works out but her schedule is crazy with church and cheerleading. We'll keep our fingers crossed she can make it.
Our Fourth celebrations have been multiple this year. Usually, it is quiet and we are at home but this year has been different. One of the mom's from TKD invited us over for a celebration yesterday. Of course, she forgot to mention that in Russia they eat lightly the week before a holiday so they can gorge on the holiday. The food did not stop from 5pm to 10pm when we left. Russian food is good. Today, we were at John's sister's (Linda's) house for a big celebration with family and some of their friends. The girls enjoyed the pool and we all enjoyed the food. Though to be honest, John and I both would rather not eat much for the next couple of days.
Hope everyone enjoyed themselves, safely, while celebrating the birth of this wonderful country!
