The last day of 2013

Well, in less than four hours 2014 will be upon us. I'm not sure how I feel about this year. I know we could have done more. We could have accomplished more. We could have laughed more. But really in the scheme of things we, as a family, did so many wonderful things this year.

I do hope next year we find it easier to keep the house cleaner, to exercise more without it feeling like exercise and laugh even more than we do normally. I hope we find a way to complete school before the end of May (not by choice, but necessity).

Cooking

I know it is difficult to believe, but I do cook. And I've been trying to do more and more from scratch. Okay. Honestly, lately, I've been failing miserably at it, but last week I had a good week.

I boiled a chicken last week. I know, not terribly exciting; however, usually when I do that and John is home he winds up taking over. Last week, I made sure to cook it the one day he worked. ;)  Yep, I'm smart too! lol  Anyway. He came home and, of course, had to taste the broth. The next thing I know he has a bowl of my broth with green onions and is happily devouring it. The chicken was awesome too!! I made a homemade chicken pot pie two nights ago and we ate all but a small spoonful in one night.

I have more of the chicken in the freezer. I'm not sure what I'm going to make yet. I have two recipes I'm contemplating, both Mexican.

Chloe is hoping to make bread one day this week. We'll see how our schedule looks. I'm hoping for Friday afternoon, but it may wind up being a weekend thing.

What I learned about ribbons on packages

First, my cousin Phoebe was correct (please don't tell her I said that ;)  ), bows do make a package. Yes, ribbons and bows make a beautiful package. I will give you that. Second, what is rarely ever discussed is just how much longer it takes to unwrap a gift surrounded in ribbons. lol  The girls loved all the lovely packages, but soon after starting to unwrap gifts they reached for the scissors! So number three is make sure the scissors are handy. But yes, go grab the rolls of ribbon, make some bows, and wrap up that package so it can't be opened...easily. LOL

'Tis the season...I suppose

I'm not sure what it is about this time of year, but so many people seem to be so boisterous about "look at what I did".

Yes, we have big hearts in this house; however, going onto Facebook (or whatever social media) to announce the kind gesture you did for whomever just seems to take the good out of it. Great, you did something good. I wonder why you feel the need to announce the good deed to the world.

I am not sure where our society is going when it seems people only do good things so they can brag about it to those around them. So they can get a "slap on the back" and an "at ta boy".

If you are reading this, I ask you do one good deed for someone. Anyone, be it someone you know or not. Then DON'T announce it anywhere. I promise it fills your heart more than all the "great jobs" from those who were not the recipient.

Thinking...

I am thinking about closing the blog. I think the only person who reads it is Jesse, which is the main reason I have not posted much lately.
