The girls will be spending the evening with the Disney Channel. John and I will try our best to remain sane while the girls watch Disney from 6pm until midnight.
You know the craziness of our lives is complicated these days. The neighbors continue to amaze us with their lack of common sense. The dog is still a bit nuts. And some days we too succumb to insanity. But with all the complications and difficulties that life brings I wouldn’t trade our lives for anything. We are truly one happy family, who enjoys spending time with one another and that is the greatest achievement we could have as a family.
I hope all of you have a happy and safe New Year’s Day.

2009 Closes (almost)
I can not quite believe another year has come and gone. I remember when I was young Mom would always tell me to enjoy being a child, because "when you are older times goes by much faster". She was right. It hadn't dawned on me, until I was listening to the news the other day, an entire decade has passed since the "Y2K" scare (not that I was scared, or worried). Really? Ten years? Wow! Of course Jesse had to pipe it, "It hasn't been ten years for me." That's my girl.
This year will be more challenging for us. Many things are changing in our household, but I know we will make it through this year as well as we have in the past. That sounds like we are having problems. We're not. Just John's job and the issues and struggles it brings. He is adjusting, but there are some things happening we have NO control over that will make this year more difficult.
Anyway. On to what I can control. John and I have been doing a lot of talking about the girls lately. Socially, that is. For some reason over the past year, our homeschool group meetings/outings have slacked off to where they are, well, non-existent. I know others are still getting together, but the group we were with has...died. So, my objective this next semester is to make, or find, a new one. I really want to the girls back out there with their friends. So, I'm trying to figure out the how and when. Wish me luck; I'm going to need it.
School is going quite well. Both girls did very well this past semester. Warning: I AM going to brag (it is my blog ya know). LOL Jesse made a 101 in spelling and a 97 in math. Chloe made 102 in spelling and 96 in math. I still have not figured out their history grades and everything else is excellant or satisfactory. Their reading skills have improved a lot too this year. Not just the ability, but the understanding so they can use info from one subject and relate it to another. Jesse is really improved on this and amazes me with her recall. Chloe will get, I mean she is just in first grade. I'm proud of both of them.
Rosie, the puppy, is not so much a puppy anymore, but she is still a bit nuts. She loves to play! And she will finally bark. She'll knock something over, it will make a loud sound, then she'll turn and bark at it. See...she will bark! She whimpers too (like right now while I'm tyring to type).
I hope all of you (especially the lurkers here) have a happy, and safe, New Year's.

The end of Christmas 2009...
already?
I have to write this one first because I worry I may forget. Chloe has loved her Christmas this year. She has said repeatedly, "...the elves made it for me." Well, this morning my loving six-year old discovered the markers her elves made were marked "made in China". "The elves do not live in China," the proclaimed, while I was brushing my teeth. "They live at the North Pole." Of course Jesse (our truest believer) said, "They probably went to China and made it there." I'm not sure how the remaining of the conversation went because they left the bathroom while I finished brushing my teeth.
Christmas morning was blissful, but eventful. It started with me falling down a few of the steps on the staircase. I hurt my finger grabbing hold of the handrail to prevent me from going backward, but luckily that was all I hurt. Then the camera flashed "low battery". Then after five seconds of filming the camera said, "memory card full". We were getting nowhere fast! The girls finally did get everything opened. Here is another story for ya: John "hid" some packages for the girls from Santa in our closet. I can say no more. ;) Except, I do love that man!
The girls had a good Christmas at my parents (as did John and I). It was a Christmas full of surprises for most of us. The girls got the bowls/plates, tea cup set and glassware from IKEA they were trying to buy on Tuesday. Chloe was wondering how I knew they would get it."Well, because Grandma and I talk." I still had to explain more but I think she understands that adults talk things over in hopes of avoiding duplicates (which is also why I would not buy her the new Tink movie that came out last month).
John was most surprised I think (I was). My parents got him a huge popcorn maker that resembles the popcorn carts of days long past. He had been eyeing it for a while. I don't remember mentioning it to them, but somehow they knew. He loves it! He wanted to make popcorn when we got home last night but we were all a bit tired. I'm thinking at some point today I'm going to be presented with a bowl of popcorn.
I got a brand new fancy dancy sewing machine. Dad gave me a few lessons on it before we left yesterday. And I found out it was the machine Mom made the girls aprons on. I told Mom I kept looking at the aprons and feeling like I was missing something. It was stitched on a new machine! That is what I was missing.
Well, I'm being picked on again so I shall stop for now. Maybe I can squeeze in a few pics later today.

Christmas Eve 2009
I am happy to report that Santa will be getting cookies from the Morgan children this year. In fact, they made the dough yesterday afternoon with the aide of John and last night they cut them out and put on the sprinkles. I did get to cut out a couple of them (everyone's favorite part).
John says I make him look crazy here, so I'm going to address that for those who do not know John like I do. John loves to "find" things to pick on me and the girls about. When he does find something (like computer use) he doesn't let go. He'll pick about something off and on for months! I can go an entire day without checking my emails but I sit down late to do it then John will find me and act like I've been there for hours. He's not being mean or demanding, but when he is in a good mood he loves to pick. Luckily, his mother warned me of that trait years ago.
The girls room is still a work in progress, but it has come a long way. We still have to work on half the room (where their beds are) but we'll get there by the end of next week I'm sure.
I still have not touched the classroom. I just need to rearrange a few things to make it work better. I also need to finish their grades for this semester. And I'm still working on the list of books I need to order, so when school starts I don't have to worry about "thinking" just doing.
Santa arrives tonight and the girls are excited, kind of a sedated excited. Jesse is still pointing out to Chloe that it is giving and not receiving that is most imporant. We "gave" the librarians more treats yesterday. I think Jesse likes to give things that are baked/made so she can help. I don't think we could do enough for the people at the library. They are always so willing to help us every week with our homeschool selections and the "for fun" reading. I am very thankful for them.
Well, off to start a turkey!

I'll post while John is not looking...
maybe I'll get it done, but doubtful.
This week has been like a whirlwind. All the things I needed to get done have not been touched yet. Laundry is now behind. However, we have had a little fun. Sunday, as you know, we went to see my family for the Christmas gathering. It was the first time we have been in a few years (a week early helps). We actually spent yester day in Charlotte too at IKEA.
John and I were talking Monday night about the girls' room and he had an idea of what to do. I pointed to an IKEA ad and John found just what he was wanting. So, early Tuesday morning we were off. We dropped the dog off at Grandpa's and away we went. Obviously, last night we spent some time putting furniture together. Their room still has a long way to go, but I'm hoping we'll get a good bit done today too.
Speaking of today, we have not started making cookies for Santa yet. John went into town early this morning then called me just as we were pulling into the library parking lot. "I'm coming to meet you, okay?" "K." So, where did we go from there (his idea and why he meet us) to see "Alvin and the Chipmunks the Squeakquel". The girls loved it! Now we are a bit more behind with laundry and sparkling up the kitchen so we can destroy it. I am very hopeful everything will get done and we will enjoy ourselves while doing it.
As for being completely ready for Christmas, we just aren't quiete there yet. Santa still needs cookies and "other things" need to be done too.
He found me! But he said nothing...so far.
I'll let that be it for now. Off to the girls' room!

Rosie and piano practice
Jesse has been practicing playing Christmas carols on the piano, something she is wanting to do for Grandpa and Grandma at Christmas. Yesterday afternoon she was practicing in her room, while Rosie was napping there. Jesse realized after a bit when she played "O' Christmas Tree" Rosie continued resting. But if she played another song, Rosie would lift her head and cock it from one side then the other. When Jesse went back to playing "O' Christmas Tree" Rosie would put her head back down. Interesting. Our dog the music critic!

Letting go...
after twenty-five years.
This will probably be unfair to share because I'm going to leave out a lot of information. About twenty-five years ago something happened to me at school. Everyone, including myself, was shocked. Very few people know what happened that day and most who do know don't know all the details (too painful for me even today). I still had horrible thoughts of this person to this day. Well, maybe not today.
I was on Facebook this morning when I saw one of my friends had a new friend. I recognized the name instantly and wanted to take a peek at her pic. She had not changed much on the outside. She was not the enemy, but her cousin was. I looked at her friends and there was the enemy. I clicked. It was a good pic of her and her whole family: a navy husband and two children. I think today I can let it go simply because if she is not in jail, then I know she has changed. I almost wish her well.
Maybe now I can heal...

Okay, so I'm a slacker!
I've been meaning to post for a few days now. But with trying to wind up things for school by Friday, Morgan family Christmas party this past Saturday and making my first "I'll pay you" goodies today I've been swamped!
I have to admit something happened late last week I wanted to post about but for the love of John I can not remember what it was.
So, I'll start with the Morgan family Christmas party. We met at John's sister's house. The girls always have fun with their cousins and Saturday was no exception. So many packages! The girls both received a gift card from Claire's from Grandma Morgan. Of course Sunday morning that is where they wanted to go. I knew that would happen. Jesse got the cutest ice skate earrings. She picked out five other pair of earrings, a new silver/black headband with a small bow (festive). Chloe bought three pair of earrings, some hot chocolate lip balm and (no shocker here) an earring holder in the shape of the Eiffel Tower.
The adults played Combat Christmas (or White Elephant or whatever you personally want to call it). The game where you bring a gift then you can open one or take one from someone else. John took the XPExpress from Keith and I opened new grilling utensils (another gift for John).
Jesse also received a gift card from Michael's. I have to be honest I did not think she would have a hard time picking out things at Michael's, but it was rough for her. She finally decided just to spend half of her money on Sunday then she'll go back later. I'm trying to remember what she finally decided on: a log cabin bird house (she painted it Sunday), two stamps (one is Christmas ornaments and the other was, well some kind of fancy do dad), an orange ink pad, and a dolphin cross-stitch that glows in the dark.
I believe we are as ready for Christmas as we will ever be. The girls are excited and they are asking for all kinds of things...for the dog. Yep, Rosie is top of their list when you ask what they want. "A sweater for Rosie." Too cute.
And yes, you read correctly, someone did ask me to make them some goodies for cash. No one could be more shocked than I. However, they turned out fabulous. I made candy covered pretzels in the shape of Christmas trees with red ornaments and snow on some of the limbs. I hope she is as happy with them, when they are delivered tomorrow, as I was with how they turned out.
We are finishing school on Friday, but Chloe has to finish her current spelling book and Jesse has to complete her current chemistry book. Both are moving on to new books next semester. I am still working on history notes for Jesse, currently I'm just a wee bit ahead of her. I'd like to get finished. I also need to revamp our reading list for second grade before Chloe gets into second grade. Make a list of books that need to be purchased for the next school year (all the good offers are in January thru April when most people are not thinking about it yet). So many things going on inside my head! Also! Did I tell you? I can't remember. John bought me Rosetta Stone Spanish for my Christmas present. We loaded it last night and I went through the first three lessons. It is amazing how quickly some of it comes back after twenty-plus years! I wanted the girls to start in January with the new school semester but they are itching to get started. John will be doing it too. Our goal is once we get some knowledge we'll make one night a week "Espanol only" (I don't have the right key on my keyboard).

Is thinking...
of those we have loved and lost. Remember to cherish loved ones near and far. To be thankful for them every day we have them with us. And to never forget them when they are gone. I often think of the Shirley Temple movie The Bluebird. She finds her grandparents (who have died) and her grandmother tells her they live on every time she thinks of them. I imagine those I've loved and lost doing the same.

Christmas goodies
I love this time of year for a few reasons but the big one is this: I can make all the goodies I want to then send them off to other people to devour. I love to bake and make sweets. I just don't need the calories that come with them sitting in this house.
So far I have sent candy covered pretzels and Oreos to John's work (per their request). Our librarians received a batch of candy covered Oreos along with our hair dresser. John decided last night that he should have something homemade. I melted the candy, but he was so excited I let him dip the pretzels. He added sprinkles. He said they were great and Chloe agreed. Jesse and I have not had one yet, but by the end of the day I'm sure that will change.
I have yet to bake anything though. I'm thinking pumpkin cupcakes, but I have not decided for sure yet. We'll make cookies for Santa much closer to Christmas but the girls haven't told me what kind yet. In the past, we have made sugar cookies and peanut butter cookies. I have a feeling it will be on of the two for this year.
Unfortunately, I have a doctor's appointment right at the beginning of January. I gained a little weight over our vacation, and since there is no TKD for December, it is still with me. I told the doc last year I'd lose ten pounds. I hate to go back, not only not losing, but higher than before. So, most of our goodies this year have to go somewhere else. It is just so sad.

Not much going on
The every day drudgery of laundry and dishes continues. And the constant questioning of my own abilities overwhelms me at times. "School", as we refer to it, is going well. I'm hoping we'll get two weeks out for Christmas; the girls are hoping the same thing. Life here is constant yet feels ever changing. You know you do the same things everyday, but nothing seems to go the same, or smoothly. The daily chores seem to take forever and "school" never seems to start when you want it to. The same thing I think happens in most households, well minus the school part for most.
I'm not intending to give the impression things are not well here. Everything is good. I don't know. I guess sometimes I wish the mundane things could go away (be done magically would be great) so I could focus more on the fun. I sat down a few nights ago and played Monopoly with the girls for the first time in months. I am just so busy trying to get everything done I don't always have time for what should be done: spending "fun" time with the girls. I want more of that, but clothes have to be washed and dishes need to be cleaned.

First Christmas Party of 2009
Yesterday was, what I call, the Drill Christmas Party. The Christmas Party for the Guard they hold during the monthly drill weekend. See...Drill Christmas Party. I have to say there were quite a few things missing that have been there in the past. The tables are usually decorated with poinsettias, this year it was some silver and gold glittery looking sticks with snowmen bunched together like a bouquet. Not the same. No dressing. We had, I think it was, chicken, but there was no dressing. I didn't have ham, but the girls ate all of theirs so I'm sure it was good. Last year there were two lines for the serving table and this year there was only one. When you have three to four hundred people just make two lines. Really it is not that difficult. Most of us can serve ourselves and don't need officers to do it for us. Should I mention the portion sizes were tiny? I don't think they believed that many people would be there. John told me they original had up about eight tables less but were told they would need more. We filled all the tables they eventually put out (last year they were scrambling to add tables while people were eating). I think they have a lot of good ideas each year, but the planning and execution of those ideas usually miss. John is saying he is going to volunteer me next year to be Mrs. Claus. I have warned him against it. lol

Cheers
In my elementary school, all the sixth grade classes would come together to do a Christmas show every year. My class did a dance to Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. I think I got in the most practice with the dance because I rode the bus and I rode on the "second load". That only meant I had to stay at school another hour before the bus would pull back into the parking lot to take us home. So, there I was in the classroom with nothing to do except practice that dance (along with a few others). The night of the big performance I was late. I was very late. Mom couldn't take me because she was sick, so my Aunt Dian took me. As I finally walked through the door of my classroom to get ready to go to the gym, I was cheered. I had never been cheered before, and like now, I don't like being the center of attention (it makes me nervous). But there were my classmates cheering. I felt important.
Why do I bring it up? Last nights Tae Kwon Do graduation. I have to admit I was not that nervous at first. But when I stood up to do my form (with Chloe) I became very nervous. By the end of my form, my hands were shaking and it took me a while to catch my breath after sitting down.
I had plenty of time to catch my breath because we had a lot of students there. We graduated one Little Dragon, who got a patch not a belt. We had six colored belts graduate to a higher belt. One first time First Degree Black Belt, he did an awesome job with all three of his forms. Three graduated to Second Degree Black Belts, one to Third Degree Black Belt and one to a Fourth Degree Black Belt! It was an incredible night.
Jesse nor Chloe mid-termed this time but they did their weapons forms to the point of what they had learned. They also did their TKD form. Both of them did so well and were so polite that MM even commented on it while Jesse was doing her weapons form. They carried on a conversation while she was doing it! I was impressed she could talk and do that form (two numchucks at once, going in different directions).
We finally got to the board breaks, which was very exciting! Most of the men did running kicks over three obstacles which always makes it fun, especially if you've never seen it before like some of my students. One of our 2nds finally did her continuous kicks breaking both boards without putting her foot down. Graduation is always a good time to do that. She was very proud as she should have been.
But when MM finally got to my new Second Degree Black Belt and called my name I truly did not expect the uproar of cheers that I received. I was humbled. I do not just see these people as other students but as our extended family. They are supportive, kind and loving to all of us and that loud burst of supportive expression truly touched me. And after John's very loving and supportive words about my struggles with TKD it was all I could do not to cry again. I love those people and I adore my husband.
And even more wonderful than that was after everything was over one of our white belts (then a fresh yellow belt) came near me. I told her she did a great job and she just flung her arms around my waist giving me a huge bear hug while smiling up at me. She was just so excited and proud. She really did do a great job. I told her I would probably be teaching her next session and started jumping up and down (yes, she was still hugging me). So, sweet. Is teaching TKD hard? Yes, for me it is quite difficult. But the rewards of seeing the students progress and move up is wonderful.

Our classroom goes outside
We took a field trip to the zoo today so we could learn new signs (sign language) for animals. The animals were very active this morning. I guess they liked the cool air. We heard the howler monkeys in the parking lot. All three of the lions were pacing. Maybe it is getting to be mating season, not positive, I'm just going by some of the behavior I saw. We have been learning a little sign language lately, not conversational just words. So, this morning we took the classroom to the zoo to see what they knew. I think they had a lot of fun and learned some new things.

Thanksgiving 2009
I don't remember a more enjoyable Thanksgiving. This year we went to my parents' home. Dad recorded the Macy's Day Parade so the girls would not miss anything. I think I'm the one that watched it though. The turkey was delicious along with everything else. After lunch, my Dad was telling me about a book he was reading. It was sitting next to the couch so I picked it up and started reading it. It was good, but Dad wasn't finished with it. John and I both took a nap (so did Grandma later in the day). I nap. Wow! The girls had a ball with their playdoh and coloring books. The interesting thing came after our naps. John and my Dad started talking about another book my Dad had just finished. He handed the book to John and he read it until we went to bed that night. I guess he found it interesting because on the way home he asked if I had brought the book. Yep. I also brought the other book because my Dad finished it while I was napping. So, turkey, dressing, pumpkin cake (mmm!), and a few good books. What could have been better?

Change
John and I were talking tonight over dinner about how things have changed over the years. The way we spend holidays now is somewhat different than how we did before we had children. The people we see have changed. Gatherings that we used to attend we no longer attend.
I think, in a small way, we ourselves have changed a bit. Children tend to do that to most people. There they are, tiny little things, relying solely upon you to take care of them. Our children have allowed us to grow in ways I don't think we thought about before; yet we both still have childlike qualities that keep the "fun" of life going. There does seem to be a lot of "fun" going on in this place all the time. One game or another being played or argued over. Board games being won and lost. John was talking to his Mom a couple of days ago and somehow board games came into the conversation. She didn't believe him when he told her we play board games quite a bit. I'm not sure why, but it got a good chuckle out of all of us.
Holidays are special for us. Thanksgiving has to be my favorite. My pride for my country comes through on Thanksgiving just as much as Memorial Day and Veteran's Day. Sacrifices for this country came long before there was a country, and for that I will always be grateful to our ancestors.

Things that relax me
I am trying to take more time to do things that help me relax. I haven't been stressed really, but not overly happy. I guess with homeschooling, homemaking, and everything else going on I just haven't taken any time for myself lately. I used to go to Mom's Night Out on Mondays, not every Monday but at least a couple of times a month. However, no one has really been going lately with the exception of Bridget but her schedule has been sketchy too. I used to think I needed more adult conversation, but lately it has become more evident I just need to do things I want to do.
I love to crochet but honestly in the summer I just can not bring myself to do it. It is warm enough without a growing blanket on top of me. So, I've been reading. Yep! Reading books that look interesting to me instead of being school related. I have read quite a few recently. Eight Cousins and Rose in Bloom by Louisa May Alcott I loved. They were written in the late 19th century but I found some things hold up through time. The Little Black Book of Secrets was enthralling from the beginning. I just could not stop reading that one. And yes there is a trend here that the books are all from the juvenile section. So many good books I never read growing up.
I loved reading when I was young (Chloe's age), then I...well, I don't know exactly what happened. Somewhere in elementary school I became very intimidated by the library. Not sure why. The "big kid" section terrified me for some reason. So that is when my fun reading stopped. I did not pick up the habit again until college. Then I read a lot, when I had time. When the girls came along I read to them all the time when they were small. Now, they can read themselves so I am free to read what I want again. It has almost been like a weight lifted off of my since my adventures in books has returned. I do love a good book! I hoped, when I was pregnant with Jesse, to have children who love to read. I was teased a good bit by my co-workers at the time because every payday I'd go by books at the bookstore. A small fortune spent, but as I watch them now reading the books they have picked out on their own I know it was worth what I spent and so much more.

Cujo found
Friday night, as we sat watching television, we heard a ruckus on the front porch. John and I rushed out the door but saw nothing. Neither of us had turned on the porch light in our dash through the front door. We both stood there, as still as fence posts, listening as a cool breeze rushed across the porch. Suddenly, as if standing next to us, breathing. It was no ordinary breathing. A cross between a pant and a snarl. The small hairs on my neck stood up and I froze even more so than before. I felt like I stood there for minutes when truly it only lasted a few seconds. We still saw nothing though the sound felt as if it had been made directly in our ears. After a couple of minutes, John said what I was thinking, "That was spooky." No doubt!
A couple of hours later, I took Rosie out (fully armed with a torch and John's long paint stick). I found the cats were still in the tree next to the house. They finally came down the tree as I held the light on the ground verifying to the terrified cats there were no dogs, except Rosie.
Yesterday afternoon...another ruckus. Chloe was in front of me on the race for the door, but she missed seeing what I saw (the porch rail blocked her view). There it was! Oh, my! Not a big dog as the breathing would have suggested. Not in height anyway. It wasn't was tall as John's car tire to the shoulders, but the muscles. The muscles on that dog. It had its back to me so I didn't see its face, but its body said bulldog. I have never seen one quite like it. Then suddenly there were two! Two identical dogs. Not one Cujo but two running laps around John's car frantically trying to catch the cat that had run underneath it. I was horrified and pissed all at the same time. I yelled, then barked. Yes, I barked. I can not tell you why it is just what came out. The dogs took off up the hill.
Two hours later, Rosie lured the cats out from under the car; they are taking no chances with those two monsters. And I don't think I'll allow the girls to play outside unless I'm there.

Where do I begin?
We got back from our "Christmas" Disney trip on Thursday. Yep, a wee bit early for Christmas but it was when John could get off from work. We had the best time! I just don't know where to begin. John and I were talking on the way home and we both agreed this trip was completely different than any other trip we have made there.

First, we did three parks. We went to Animal Kingdom, EPCOT (per the girls request) and we went to Magic Kingdom for Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party. Animal Kingdom was great! This was the park where the girls saw all the characters and of course they were dressed in their Christmas best! I, a personal awesome moment, got to dance with Goofy! Yep, little ole me. We had the best time and John got to eat at his favorite BBQ place.

EPCOT, as always was totally fab! I think we all agree the best part of EPCOT this time was lunch. We had lunch at Teppan Edo in Japan. I just have to tell you that our steaks were so good; they practically melted in your mouth. And the dessert! I have to find a recipe for that one. It was Ginger Chocolate Cake. I really thought I wouldn't like it, but tried it anyway. Ginger is not one of my favorites and can be very strong. This cake was heavenly. It was kind of like a thin shortbread on the bottom topped with a ginger, chocolate mousse then a chocolate glaze on top. Mmmm.

I do not know where to begin for Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party. But I think I should start with our attire. John was looking for a t-shirt for himself when he thought it would be a good idea for all of us to wear the same shirt for the party. Yep, John's idea! lol As soon as we got on the bus to go that night he wished he had not thought of it. He doesn't like being the center of attention and that certainly made us the center of attention. What fun that party is! We all had a blast there. And just let me say you have not ridden Big Thunder Mountain until you do it in the dark. There are very few lights on that ride so when the sun goes down you're pretty much in the dark. Wow! Scarey! Of course the girls loved it! And wanted to ride again! I have to metion Jesse's score on the Buzz Lightyear ride, because if I don't she'll be upset. The second time we rode it, she and I went together. I was doing well on my score until she hit something. I really wish I knew what it was because it gave her a ton of points. She wound up with 101,800 points! She was thrilled. Chloe insists I add something about her so here goes. The teacups! Chloe insisted we were spinning too fast in the teacups. She kept pretending she was going to be sick. It was cute, funny and a little disturbing. She got off laughing and five minutes later asked to do it again. Stinker!

I will say this about this visit, as far as the parks go. We did not wait longer than ten minutes for any ride (and that includes Mickey's party). The longest wait we had was at Test Track, as soon as we got in line they had "technical difficulties", which really made me wonder why I was still in line.
If you ask John about his favorite part of this trip, I promise he will answer the food. I have to say we did eat well this trip. This was the first time we used Disney's Dining plan and it is awesome. We had some fabulous food and ate at some very nice places. And each meal included a dessert!
My favorite part was, of course, I did not have to drive at all for the duration of our stay. The bus drivers and boat captains did it all for me. That is my idea of a vacation! No driving, cooking, or cleaning of dishes. Awesome!
Just in case your wondering...the weather was perfect!!
Strange happenings...
after every vacation. Seems the fish food for your vacations is just not quite right. Yes, we have a filter, so the water is in constant motion. Somehow after every vacation we lose a fish (or two). Yesterday afternoon we lost one. Then a couple of hours later another one passed. The same thing happened after our last vacation. I'm not sure what we are going to do, but a discussion is on the horizon for us.

Life...
in constant motion.
Have you ever noticed when you have a really good day something happens at the end to make you forget the good and focus on something, well, not so great?
I am going to go back to religion again. Just for a moment. I hear a lot about we should learn/or not (depending on your point of view) to "tolerate" this or that. I have a problem with the word "tolerate" used in this fashion. Tolerate means "to allow the existence, presence, practice or act without prohibition or hindrance; permit." I guess I have a problem with the world "allow" in that one. I just don't like to be told what to do/think so I assume others feel the same way about it. Personally, I would rather accept (to receive as to meaning; understand) people. I have quite a few friends who have come to me over the years (not always close friends) because they thought I was the only person they knew who would not judge or ridicule them.
I wonder, if we (as a world) did not believe in acceptance (or tolerance, if you insist), where we would be? We would be a world of racists. I am not racists; my husband is not either. I hope my children grow-up to be intelligent, accepting people. I can not imagine looking at anyone and wishing any harm upon them simply because of their religion. As I recall, Hitler had no tolerance for the Jews.

Really?!
John arrived home this afternoon. He stopped off first for a haircut (sounds innocent, right?). As soon as he walked in, I saw something different. Something wrong. I looked closely at the hand to his side carrying his work bag and a brown paper bag and his glasses. His glasses! In two pieces!! Are you kidding me??
Back story: John went Tuesday to pick up his new glasses. They were wrong. This makes like the third year in a row. So, they had to reorder them...another week at least.
I look at John in horror as I take the two pieces just to make sure I was seeing what I thought I was seeing. I was. After his haircut, this ***** salesman trying to pawn off some stupid eyeglass cleaner took his glasses to "clean" them and the first stroke broke them! What a ****** ****! Really?! Luckily, he had his Rx sunglasses with him. The guy gave him samples of "That Stuff" and a rag to make up for breaking the $400 glasses! Really?!

A lot on my mind...
more than usual it seems.
I've been thinking a lot lately about different kinds of things. One is remembering why we chose to homeschool in the first place. I've been tired lately and sometimes I must remind myself that I will only make these sacrifices for a few years then our girls will set off on a journey of their choosing.
I've been thinking a lot about family. What does "family" mean to me? I don't think of "family" as just those who happen to have the same bloodline. I feel a very strong bond to those who are not bound to us by blood, but have included us as part of their family; and they are certainly a part of ours. I have recently found my "little brother" on Facebook, which has led me more recently to his mom. Who I claim, and have for quite a while, to be my "second" mom. A lady whose poise and quiet nature always amazed me in a classroom full of nitwits! Well, not full but those few do stand out in a room of less than twenty.
Religion has been on my mind a lot lately too. Maybe Jesse's history studies have been playing in my head or life as it is right now. I am, brace yourselves, atheist. I am. I have been for quite a while. It took me a long to realize it. I mean after all I grew up in southern Baptist church getting yelled at the minister every Sunday until I was a teenager. But somewhere along the way, I found myself. Most readers of this will choose to believe I "lost" myself, but that would not be correct. I spent many years being what other people around me thought I should be even though it wasn't me. Now, today, I can see who I am and I have to say I am proud of who I am. I am a strong person, both mentally and physically. I have depth. I can see in people who they are, usually before they say anything. (I am not always right, but mostly.) I am accepting of others who are not like me. I mean really why would I want everyone to be like me...what would we have to discuss. Some of my closest friends are...dare I say...Republican. Deep breath! lol And no I am not a Democrat either. On that matter too I show and Independent thought.
Back to religion. I wish, and believe me this is hard for humans, everyone could be accepting of people's religious views. There are so many views going back so many years and they have changed so much over time. People seem to be in the mind set that what they believe is the only thing to believe. When really it is the only way for that person. That individual could not imagine believing anything else, and can not understand what is wrong with the rest of the world and tries to convert everyone. Something I find ridiculous, annoying and quite frankly disrespectful. Believing that anything you could say in a brief conversation could change a person's religious viewpoint on the spot is arrogant. I beg you to stop trying. If a person is going to change it will only come from within. Here is one I love! I personally get this one a lot. People who constantly tell me they were put in my life to show me the way. Really? Maybe I was put in your life to show you another way! Now, we are even. And by the way, stop that! Religions are delicate and fragile, yet create the strongest emotions possible in people. People protect their religions like they would protect a child, so be gentle.
I have a lot more on my mind, like why does laundry never seem to end even after you finish it. Why is it the neighbor's dogs prefer to poop in your yard? Where do all the pumpkins go after Halloween? Why do sweet things have to be so incredibly bad for you? Why can't lunch fix itself? And of course, where did the extra sock come from in the laundry? My mind seems to have, well, a mind of its own lately. If I have upset you, I apologize that was certainly not my intent. My intent was to clear my mind on my blog. If you have more thoughts, please feel free to clear your mind on your blog.
Note: I wrote this the morning of Nov. 5th. I didn't post it because I wanted to "sit on it" a bit. We had school in the afternoon so the TV was off. I did not hear about Fort Hood until I arrived at TaeKwonDo and Master Mike told me. This morning I listened to GMA as they discussed the Major being harassed because of his religion. I also heard he had been reprimanded for pushing his religion. Religion is not a two-way street...it is each person's own private road.

John's new space!
Rosie update...
finally. I really don't know what has finally come over that pooch of ours, but she is finally barking to let me know she needs to go outside. I have been working on that since we first got her. However, she is very stubborn and would never bark. You could do anything and she would not bark. A month or so ago, I finally gave up trying. My thought was when she was ready she would figure it out. Finally, she has figured it out. The last couple of weeks she would only bark at me if I were in the classroom. Today she let out her loudest bark yet, while I was in the living room. Progress...finally!

10 Days in the USA...
I never thought it would be a problem game. Please don't get me wrong this is an enjoyable, educational game and we love to play it as a family. However, we have played it many times with John and Chloe against Jesse and myself. Jesse and I always managed to win, sometimes just barely but always won...until Monday! Yep! John and Chloe finally took us down and I'm happy they did. Chloe wanted to change partners but I just had a feeling that night was going to be their night (no I did not throw the game). Just my guts talking to me so Chloe stuck it out with her dad. This is them right after. Can you see the excitement???
The girls get a new "school"...
and Mom finally gets a break!

A little over three weeks ago, I had an idea of moving the girls into the bonus room and the classroom downstairs. I just kept looking at all the space we were not using upstairs and the girls stuff was everywhere downstairs. I called John and he said if I thought it was a good idea we would do it. Of course, me being me, I started moving things immediately. That night I wanted John to help me move my desk and a few other big things downstairs. We were standing in the new classroom (once Jesse's room) and John said, "Do you want me to paint while its empty?" Well, DUH! So instead of moving furniture that night we went and bought paint. And we bought paint for Chloe's old room which was going to be a room for John. Three weeks later we almost have the house back to normal (except the girls' room), though there are still a few things left to do. We love the new classroom! I haven't taken pics of John's room yet. He is still working on a few things, but hopefully soon we'll have pics of it too.

Preparing for Halloween
We went to Charlotte the weekend of John's birthday and my parents took the girls to a pumpkin patch to get pumpkins. They were so pleased! Each of them picked out their own pumpkin then picked out the design to carve into it. I think they both did a great job. And John did a great job carving!

Chloe amuses me...
as always. The girls and I decided, after being cooped up in the house all week (and since Jesse is doing better), that we would go to a drive-thru then on to "our spot" to have lunch today. On the way we started discussing how long until our trip and Halloween. Chloe's response to the conversation was, "So much happiness." I had to laugh. She knows exactly what makes her happy and she is not afraid to say it out loud.
Too much going on these days...
and not nearly enough rest! There have been a lot of changes happening over the last three weeks (hence not enough time to blog properly). The girls are getting a new school, which in and of itself is a huge undertaking. We are rearranging the house, so John can get his very own space to do with as he pleases. His first decision was to paint (something I was not expecting, which is part of the reason the process took so long). He chose a great color called Bamboo and it looks great! We have moved both girls to the bonus room with all their toys, beds, TV, etc. We are still moving a few things around, but I think when it is all done it will be fabulous. I just need Jesse to be better so we can finish it. I'm really hoping a lot of things are accomplished this weekend so the new week starts off right.

Happy Birthday Linda!...
We were very sorry to miss your birthday dinner last night, but John said he would have felt very bad if anyone got sick. We hope you enjoyed your meal and that today is as wonderful as you want it to be! Happy Birthday from the Lugoff clan!
John's birthday and other things
My intention Sunday was to blog about John's birthday. We went to my parents for the weekend. My parents watched the girls while John and I spent the entire morning, and part of the afternoon, at IKEA. We've been looking forward to going for a while and were very excited about getting to go by ourselves. We actually had lunch there, just us! The first meal together alone in years! It was wonderful. And yes, we did buy a few things and found some future purchases. John promised the girls we would take them back one day so they could have lunch there too (the meatballs were incredible!!!).
Of course, my Mom had to get John a couple of more gifts for his birthday (a sweater and a tombstone-to go with the other Halloween stuff from earlier). I think he enjoyed himself. I mean who wouldn't with birthday cake, apple pie, cookies, chicken and dumplings and of course the BBQ!
While my intention Sunday was to blog about all the exciting things that happened this weekend, Jesse starting getting sick Sunday afternoon. She really didn't feel great all day Sunday but it started hitting her hard late that afternoon. It has been a whirlwind of cleaning and laundry ever since to try to prevent the rest of us from getting it. I was worried a lot about myself there for a bit. The pooch has had her own problems and been waking me every hour to hour-and-a-half every night for about two weeks. Being tired and having the flu in the house is very worrisome. So far it has only inflicted Jesse. Poor baby! Her fever is down, but now she has a cough that I am listening to/for very carefully. I'm hoping the end is near, but only time will tell.

A trip to the dentist...
yesterday was very interesting. Our appointment was a 9:30. Usually by then the front and most of the second rows of the parking lot are filled, but yesterday I parked on the front row with one other car. When we got inside there was only one family waiting, again unusual. Our dentist (there are 3 or 4 in the office) has eight chairs, which are usually full. Yesterday it was just our girls and three boys in the office. I was told they had no other patients for hour then they would have two more and until after lunch. The dentist said it had been like that all week. I think the flu has many people down and I'm glad to know they are staying at home! I hope everyone feels well today.

We hope you had a great time at the Brave's game and didn't eat too many hot dogs! Enjoy your day today!

What a day!
This morning I took my friend Wendy out for a belated birthday treat. We had a great time talking about, almost, everything.
I got home a little after 12:30. I was standing in the kitchen waiting for my lunch (John and the girls ate before I got home), when a flash of light caught my attention. I looked out the kitchen window and saw a van turning around in our drive way. No, it was pulling into our driveway. Wait! That's my Dad! Yep, my parents surprised us with a visit today. Seems that Mom just couldn't wait for John to get his birthday present. You see she bought him the platform for the Halloween village and she thought he should have it too. He loved it! Before they left this afternoon he already had it set up on the breakfast bar. I think he is still tweaking it, but still very happy.
I'll post a pic soon.

John's birthday...
yep, it was early. We were suppose to take him to Red Bowl for dinner but somehow yesterday afternoon he and someone got to talking about oysters. We wound up at Harbor Inn eating fish. He was happy with his clams and oysters and that is what matters for a birthday celebration. I told him at dinner, since we were doing his birthday dinner early we would go ahead and give him his gift.
I think he was very surprised about his gift. He had been looking (this year and last) at the Michael's Halloween village stuff. And he had made several comments about we should do that sometime. Well that is what we did. The girls and I picked out a lot of the smaller things for him to design his own village. He really liked it! I'll post a pic when we get it set out the in its permanent home.

TKD tonight
Well we found out Master Mike's finger was broken last week when Aaron did his board break. I knew it wasn't good when MM immediately dropped the board and walked into the hallway. I told John when I got home and he thought it was cool he actually witnessed it. Go figure! Men! lol
So, what that meant for class tonight was I had to help with board breaks. I held the board for everyone in the class Jesse and I teach, then I had to help again in the black belt class. Now, the black belt class is the scary one! These feet come flying toward your face and you're hoping they will stop just short. They all did, but I found out after class that Brian actually broke pieces off of the black board when he did one of his kicks. I'm just glad I wasn't looking, just focusing on holding the board I had to hold and the way I was suppose to hold it. This also means we'll (the instructors "in training") will be holding the boards for graduation on Thursday. A hair bit worried, but I'll try not to show it too much.
There was something funny. Usually I would not find humor in this but as it was two of us I found some humor in it. We've been going to MM for TKD for four years now (Jesse is on her fourth year). He has had a few students who have been there longer. One of them is Brady. Until tonight I'd never put our names together. When Brady said it as I was preparing for my board break, I cracked up. I couldn't stop laughing for a few minutes. Neither of us like it, but for a few minutes it was funny.

Is it really...
Sunday again? Wow, this past week has flown by. I guess I really shouldn't blink!
I was going to blog last Wednesday but really have not had the chance. We went shoe shopping last Wednesday for John and myself some new tennis shoes. We went to two different stores and neither had a pair to fit either of us. Needless to say, we were both a bit disappointed. So, yesterday morning we thought we'd try the PX. Low and behold they had a pair for each of us! Yeah! My last tennis shoes were so uncomfortable, so I'm very happy to have new ones.
Let's see what else has happened...
The kids are still working on their play at park day. Someone brought the script on Friday. Yes, an actual you say this kind of script. It is very interesting to see how they are working all of this on their own.
Today, we had my Autry family reunion (the side of my family Jesse derived her name from). I love seeing my extended family. I think a lot of those who aren't able to come and those we've lost. All loved deeply. I usually go by and see my grandparents, but today I didn't. I do feel bad about that so we'll have to drive by there again soon (a detour on the way to or from my parent's). We have new members of the family and I counted three more on the way next year. So exciting! Still cranky with Dex for not showing up and I made a pecan and pumpkin pie especially for him. I'll have to deal with him soon! lol My cousin Phoebe found a pic of the "three musketeers" from 1996. Wow! I even remember the night we took it. It was the only time in our lives that we spent a lot of time together...a time I cherish and miss.
Tomorrow we take Rosie to be "fixed". Yep, it is finally the day. I'm not looking forward to having to keep her calm while she heals. "Calm" is not a word in her vocab! Hopefully all will go well.
Jesse and Chloe both have mid-terms at TKD this Thursday. Chloe is mid-terming with her numchucks and Jesse with double short sticks. I'm thinking it is going to be a lot of fun with those two. We are calling off school that day to make sure they both get enough practice in before we get there. The hand roll on the numchucks can be tricky if you have done it in a few days.
That is about it for here. I'm sure I've missed something along the way but it will come up eventually.

We've been busy...
and still more to do. Saturday we went to John's work to clean out (most everything) from his old office so Elizabeth can call it hers next week. I thought I take of pic of John. In December, he would have been in that same office for five years, the end of an era.

Yesterday was field trip day...I needed a break! So the girls and I set off to the zoo to sketch animals. We didn't sketch animals because Jesse to forgot to pack Chloe's sketch pad. However, we met quite a few volunteers and zookeepers along the way and we learned a lot. Zookeeper Matt told us about one of the species of vultures. There are only ten pair left in the wild. He said one of the major factors is they only lay eggs in a certain temperature with a certain humidity, and only one week out of the year. Endangered is not the right word here. Mr. Matt told us there are quite a few zoos with pairs and hopefully come breeding season they will get very lucky!

Christmas in September...
well, actually November. John decided that this year for Christmas we are taking the girls to Disney World, except he can only go in November. We have been at Christmas before but Jesse was about 19-months old and Chloe was still in my tummy, so they have only seen pictures. Disney is truly magical at Christmas.
Originally, we were going to go to Kennedy Space Center (KSC) for a couple of days, then Disney. And we were going to try to go in December (I didn't know John was worried about getting off of work in December). Somehow John and I got to talking about the Mickey Christmas party, then he asked me to look at the dates for the party. Well, after sitting at the computer for a while John told me it would be much easier for him to get off of work in November; he was shocked to hear they did the Christmas party in November too. So we are no longer going to KSC but to Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party! Okay, for those who don't know, the party is at night with free cookies and hot cocoa. There is a parade full of Christmas lights and fireworks galore. Is that all? Oh, no! There is SNOW! Yes, snow! In Florida! They have snow machines set up so just as the parade approaches you the snow starts. How magical is that?
So, John and I both were very excited about the party (he is the one that said, "If I have to choose between Kennedy and the party I'm choosing the party."); John and I have never been to the Christmas party. Then we got to looking at the rates Disney had for November and they were offering free food. Yep, the dining plan was included. Of course I had to look up which plan it was because I only knew about the "quick service" plan. When I told him we could eat at places like Boma, he was HOOKED. So much so, I had to make ALL of the restaurant reservations last night. I think he dreamed about the food all night.
Now, if the two adults are this excited can you imagine the girls? They are already making a list of things they want to see: the life-size gingerbread house that sells gingerbread cookies, the gingerbread carousel, the boardwalk made of sugar-items, the giant decorated tree that the "pot" is 8-foot tall. And yes, they know this is their Christmas present and there will be no more from Mom and Dad. They are still excited.

The making of...
laundry soap. Yes, today we had to make soap again. So, the girls had several lessons. The first lesson was, "How many quarts are in a gallon?" Jesse knows this one from math but Chloe is not there yet. Then it was, "How fun is it to grate soap?" Answer: very! Chloe was especially enjoying this one; she kept playing with it after it was grated. The next lesson was in power tools. Yep, it takes one power tool: a drill with a paint stirrer attached.
The last lesson was, to me, the most important. It was a lesson in economics. Last October I bought the supplies to venture into laundry soap making. Today, 11 months later, I still have half of the supplies left and I paid less than $5 for all of it. I would usually buy laundry soap once every two weeks at $10/each. Eleven months later would have been $220, but instead it was more like $2.50. An excellent lesson for anyone I'd say and it is so easy to do!

Our shopping trip...
yep, another one. I don't know if I discussed this (it has been busier than usual here), but Jesse needed an entire new wardrobe this year. But that also means Chloe inherited one (I did feel the need to add a few new items to hers though). Anyway. Today, I took them to JCPenney to buy shoes. I had already looked on-line and they each picked out a pair to try. Of course we get there and the black shoes for Chloe are only available in brown in the store. And the black size 2 shoes only go up to 11 1/2 in the store. Yes, they could have ordered them in the right color and size, but Jesse's foot is very slim (like her aunts) and she really needs to just try them on. And let's face it you don't know if a shoe is comfy just by looking at it on-line. So, what do I do? I get myself into trouble. Yep, I looked across the aisle at the girls clothes (where we were yesterday) and saw the 40% off sign that was not there yesterday on their dresses for both girls. Did I have money left in the "clothes" budget for this purchase? Um, no(enough for shoes but not three dresses). Does John know I did this? Um, again, no (he was in Charleston today). Do I think he is going to be angry? No. You should have seen the girls in these dresses. They both looked like...well, I just wanted to cry. Jesse is growing up and those dresses really showed it. She just beamed and so did Chloe. Resistance was futile!

How sad am I...
very! I took the girls for the yearly check-up today. The doctor and I, somehow, started talking about how height is effected by puberty. And she was saying when young girls show signs of puberty they usually stop growing. I asked for clarification on "what signs exactly". And she said "breast tissue". BINGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So that was it. We spent the next ten minutes discussing this about me (I started developing at 8, Jesse's current age). She said I probably would have qualified (if they did this then, I don't know for sure) for treatment to stop puberty so I could grow more. So, if I see any signs in the girls I am to bring them in immediately. I do want to give them every chance, especially Chloe (who grew 2 1/2 inches in the past year).

My adventure into homemade mac & cheese...
not baked. As I poured out our last box of Kraft the other week, I became thinking about how difficult it would be to make it that simply, from scratch. Turns out...not that hard. Today was the day I finally did it. I just made one-and-a-half cups of noodles and drained it. Then added about a cup-and-a-half of organic cheddar cheese and one-third cup Parmesan, a little butter and a splash of organic milk. And viola! Mac and cheese. The girls apparantly liked it, both had two bowls. Just goes to show we don't need these "instant gratification" companies all the time (ocassionally will do). John even tried it when he got home today and he liked it too. Now, I'm happy!

Busy week...
of nothing exciting. We have been very busy this week with our usual things. School is keeping us quite busy. The girls are still having a good year and enjoying what they are studying, which always makes for a good day. We went to the library Wednesday and I discovered Ms. Christy is giving "library classes" for the homeschoolers. She and I both thought they could skip this month's lesson on "how to use the library". So, next month they will be taking a database class. What exactly it is I don't know, but I know Ms. Christy will take good care of them.
The girls and I finally made it to a park day today. I think it is the first time we've been to a large gathering since last fall. The girls had a lot of fun but they are very tired and I'm hoping they fall asleep fast tonight. Tomorrow we are going to visit with my parents while John is working.
John's training is going well, but slow. I think we are going to have to order him a few things for his desk but we'll get that worked out soon. I did find out tonight that John will be doing more traveling with this new job. I'm not sure how I feel about that one but I have no choice. His first adventure out will be next Wednesday when he heads to Charleston.
The picture above my side of the bed tried to kill me again this morning. A couple of months ago the whole thing fell off the wall and behind the headboard. This morning just the front of the frame, picture and glass fell. Luckily behind the headboard again. Honestly, I'm very leery of putting that thing back up.
Oh, yeah! We saw the peacock again today. It was down Hwy. 601 this time. It just seems very strange to me, but not so much to other people. Anyway, I'm glad to know he is still alive.

Update on John's job...
from bad to worse. Well, where to start. I think I mentioned he was moving into a cubicle. Did I mention he has never worked in a cubicle, let alone one in the middle of a great big room. Now, if being in a cubicle isn't bad enough I have found out the cubicle has shrunk since I last saw it and now there are two full-time people working in it, one on orders (temp) and John training. Poor John! I feel bad for him.
Okay, that is not the worst part. The other full-time girl working in the cubicle told John a couple of weeks ago she was looking for another job. Well, she is being promoted and leaving in nine days! Yes, another promotion that is not John. Now, John will be left completely alone at the end of the month and he has to train someone new when he has no clue what he is doing, so how do you train someone?
Needless to say (but I will anyway), his stress level is at its maximum. I asked him last night when he was going to be able to train his replacement. "I'm not." So, poor Elizabeth but at least she did the job for a couple of months while John was in school at the beginning of the year. I'm looking for a silver lining but haven't found it yet. I think John feels like he is being punished for some reason. I wish he wouldn't feel like that, but I can't change how he feels. I did give him a back rub last night because it is the least I can do.

Our morning adventure...
We went to the commissary this morning. We were in great need of food! lol Anyway, we usually go early to avoid the lines and the crazy people. However, this morning that did not exactly work in our favor. We arrived in the parking lot at 7:28am (about when we usually get there). About 8:20 to 8:30, we got in line to check out (which seemed unusually long for that time of day). I was immediately informed by the lady in front of me the computers were down. Great joy! We were finally able to leave, with our groceries, about 9:00am. Most of the lanes were still down, but some were finally open. I think if that is the worst thing that happens to us today then we'll have had a good day. But it did put me behind a bit.

No, this is not our garage...
it belongs to the neighbors I dislike so! Yes! Yes, that is poop. And yes that is where the dogs stay sometimes during the heat of the day. I know this because they bark at me when I take Rosie out to get the mail. Needless to say, this is only ONE of the reasons I dislike these people. But we think its enough. Click on the pic if you want to see it more clearly.

Dinner...
or the lack of! For dinner tonight, I fixed John's favorite peas with pearl onions, rice and Parmesan chicken. I timed it perfectly too. When John arrived home there was three minutes left on the, so I had time to set the table, pour drinks and put the other food on the table. There I was, with John standing next to me talking to me and Chloe eagerly awaiting the chicken, taking the chicken out of the oven. I set it down on the stove top and.....

I have no clue what happened. We were all amazed!

A peak into Jesse and Chloe's world...
with all the excitement that comes with it.
This morning in class Jesse was checking her pretest for Spelling when she says, "I missed 'cancel'!" Chloe sitting next to her says, "It's C-A-N-C-E-L." Jesse looks at me then exclaims, "I'm NOT smarter than a first grader!" It was too funny...you should have been there! Side note: the other day Jesse was playing her new CD game "Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader" and she won one million dollars! If only it had been real money.
Chloe on the other hand has had a pretty calm day. She now has a new fixation: sarcophagus. She has been studying ancient Egypt in history for the past few weeks and this seems to be her favorite part. I believe she just likes saying the word, but anything that makes her want to learn more! Yesterday at the library she got the Magic Tree House book, "Mummies in the Morning". I'm not going to complain at least she likes history...for now.

How quickly things change...
don't blink! Well, I shouldn't have blinked. John called me yesterday afternoon while I was driving to TKD. He informed me he now has a new job. Yep, a new position. No, there is no promotion. I think he was sideswiped by it more than I was. Usually, they hear rumors for weeks on end about things going on or going to happen but there was nothing this time. Even his Commander and First Sergeant were taken off guard. The Sergeant Major of the state of SC made this decision (at least that how we think it came down). He is suppose to be in his new position by the end of September. I believe (and he can correct me if I'm wrong) he will be processing all the promotions for the entire state. We'll see how it goes.
So, I get to TKD and have all of that in my head. I am facing the wall putting our things down and turn to see Master Mike next to me handing me a red jacket and training book. For those who don't know, MM has been talking to me most of this year about becoming an
'instructor in training". As of this coming Tuesday, I will be in the red jacket learning how to teach TKD. I'm not sure how I feel about this one either. I usually sit on the side lines and tell the white and yellow belts what to do to fix something. Or MM gets me out on the floor to help with kicks. Lately, I've been helping a lot with the black belt recommendeds relearn all their forms (please don't think I remember all of them, that is why we have a book-but I don't understand it). I can also stand/sit up front during graduation. Really you don't do much. However, it is the warm-ups I'm worried about. I get wore out doing my own warm-up session, now I have to help lead another set. The good thing is Jesse and I will both be helping in the same class. The bad thing is Jesse and I will both be helping in the same class. She still looks to the side for help from me and now she won't be able to do that because I'll be out there with her.
Just when you get comfortable with the way things are, and have been, they suddenly change. I know there are a lot of changes going on right now with a lot of people, some are good and some are bad and some are just life. Change, I think, is what you make of it. John did very well. When his First Sergeant asked him how he felt about the move John told him it didn't matter what he felt because it wouldn't change the fact he was moving. No alarm or despair, just the realization there are some things beyond our control.

It's confirmed (self diagnosis)...
my nose is broken! I've been thinking since last Thursday's sparring that it was, but was not convinced. Sunday, while washing my face, I pressed down a bit instead of the barely touching it as I had been doing. Pain was instant, but not bad and still no swelling. Monday night John accidentally nicked my nose with is arm while trying to change the channel in our bedroom (you have to aim it just right). Last night was TKD and I took some ibuprofen before going; therefore, my nose felt fine. I guess I did not think what all the jumping, talking and everything else would do. This morning at 3:41am I knew...and it isn't all that pretty. I woke up in a lot of pain, so I finally got up to take something. While I was in the bathroom I looked at my nose. It has two puffy places on both sides of my nose and there is some purple now going from the bridge of my nose down under my eyes (left side is worse than the right). So, broken nose but I think it is more a hair-line fracture than a true break. I'm pretty sure if it was a true break I would have known last Thursday.
