Today, we finally had the chance to take my new rod and reel out for a spin. I did catch one fish, just one. I caught one fish when my Dad took me fishing at Uncle George's and none when John took me fishing in Edgefield. So, I'm glad I caught ONE. ;) We came home with thirteen medium sized fish. Seemed like every time John put a line in, he instantly pulled up a fish! Jesse and Chloe both caught a few too. Chloe continued to catch "fish sticks", those fish were so tiny!! We tossed them back, of course.
The lesson for today, obviously, was catching your own food and how to prepare it. We brought the fish home and tried our best to get the girls to help scale them. They refused to touch them. However, they had no problem checking them for more scales after their heads were off in a bowl. Not sure about that. lol
John and the girls then fried them, along with homemade hush puppies. We ate well. We did not eat much, but well. John said it was a lot of work for a little bit of food. I told him once there are four of us doing the work, then it won't be so bad. I reminded the girls if they want to continue to go fishing, and bring home fish, they have to start helping out. I was more forgiving this time, because it was the first time they witnessed the entire process.
I thought about taking a picture of the cooked food after it had been devoured. Sorry. ;)

I love fish fresh from the pond! The kids and David may go fishing on Monday-the first time in years. I'll be staying home with the little guys, but I hope they catch enough to feed our big crew at least one meal.
