I thought today was going to be easy. A quick trip to the Commissary for food, then home to try a new recipe for cupcakes and icing. Well, what do I know!
First, I forgot I was kind of low on gas before going to TKD last night, so the gas hand was really low this morning. No problem, I'll get gas on the way back from the Commissary (there is a gas station just off post at the gate I usually use). I drove past the gas station and over the hill to find the line to turn onto post was about a mile long (no joke)--left turn, at least there is a light. (Like that really helped!) We finally pulled into the parking lot of the Commissary at 7:42 (we left the house at 7:00, no we don't live that far). I found out the fort is having "family day" and "graduation" all at once because of the holiday. Grocery shopping went well. Talked to Ms. Shirley and Ms. Mary, paid and left.
We had to take the exit for the Main Gate because the gate I usually use, the "out" was still blocked off (I had forgotten it was like that last week). Why? Not sure. So there I am cruising down the interstate to the next exit hoping my gas light doesn't come on. We get to the gas station with just barely any gas. Yeah, we made it! I get out to pay. Put my card in the reader (same one used for the Commissary) and it says, "Card Expired". CRAP!!!!!!!!!!! Ask me if I carry cash (especially if I have any left at 8:30am on the day of payday!) Ask me if I have an emergency credit card. I do now. John handed it to me as he pumped my gas because he had to come to my rescue. Poor thing, but at least the milk didn't spoil.
After arriving home and putting away the groceries, we went to the bank to see where the problem was. [rolling my eyes] Seems that when John called to have all of our Lugoff information put into the system they changed his, but not mine...we have a joint account. HELLO! The banker offered me a temp card, but it would only work at their ATMs. I don't think that will help me buy gas, so I declined.
I did finally get to cupcakes and icing. The girls loved them and said they were "awesome". John, however, is a bit more particular. He said the cupcake was good, but dry and the icing had a strange flavor. I have more recipes to try so hopefully next week I'll get the chance. I also need to try a couple of cookie recipes. I wonder how hungry they are going to be at TKD...we really shouldn't eat all of that ourselves!
