Yesterday was the beginning. I'm hoping I finally did something smart (with the yard). How many people remember last spring I drove to my parents, dug up a couple of trees and brought them back here to be planted? Well, yesterday the maple had to be moved.
We finally have a "grand" plan for the backyard and the maple needed to be moved back about twenty, give or take a few, feet. I remembered the weather forecast said is was suppose to rain from Wed to Sat, sounded like the perfect time to move a tree.
I have to admit sounding and doing are two totally different things. First, I had to dig the hole. Sounds easy, right? Well, for those who have not seen our backyard lately it has been overrun with the tree root system from you know where. The small roots are the worst; they are rubbery so getting them to break doesn't work so well and pulling them up is hard because they just stretch. I did finally get the hole dug. Yep. I WON.
I was very happy when I actually dug up the tree. I was worried about the root system because last year, frankly, it had little. The location of the tree in my Dad's yard was not prime and when we removed it most of the roots stayed in the ground. And of course it was the first day to reach the 90's (actually 94). The poor maple had a rough day. So, I was very glad to see all the roots that had grown over the last year.
Our "grand" plan is really that...grand. We have many things to be done before we can get the landscaper here. I'm not sure when John is planning on tackling the bulk of it, but I have a feeling it will be soon. I am, however, convinced I'm not in good enough shape to do all that needs to be done. I'm hoping for the best. And finally a GREAT backyard.
